The Scotland Cricket Team has published a fourteen name list of players who will be facing the Afghan Team in the Afghanistan Tour of Scotland scheduled to hold this month. Interestingly, ten players whose names are in this list previously featured in the Scottish Maiden tour of Oman two months ago where the Scottish Team triumphed in the four nation tournament between Oman, Scotland, Ireland and The Netherlands. It is obvious the Scotland team is looking for consistency ahead of the upcoming international competitions coming up later in the year.
The Scottish head coach commented:
"We certainly go into the series with a lot of confidence and we are ready to face the challenge of a strong Afghanistan Unit. We feel we are covered in all Departments and fans can expect a positive brand of cricket from the team ahead of an important year of cricket."
Cricket Women to Grab Spotlight in African Qualifier
There is going to be a firecracker this week as the African Female professional cricket teams all converge to do battle for the prestigious slots for the ICC Women's World Cup as well as the T20 Qualifying Slots scheduled to hold in Harare. The qualifier will begin with action between the hosts and Mozambique while current champions Uganda will square off against Sierra Leone.
The tournament aims at consolidating on the gains gotten at the recent qualifying events with the exciting under-19 tournament which held in Namibia and the fast approaching T20 World Cup for men hosted by Uganda later in May. The defending champions Uganda have already faced off against Zimbabwe where they were able to hold more than their own against the challengers in Windhoek.
Women's Cricket has particularly been a raving success in Africa and these tournaments are the building blocks to ensure the women game is well consolidated in the African Continent. The winners of the individual groups will take part in the final competition ensuring that the eventual winner contests in the Global Qualifiers.
Defending Champions Papua New Guinea Begin Regional Title Defense with Two Wins out of Two
The cricketing season has never gotten a better start for the PNG team as they continue their best ever start to a regional campaign by defeating Vanuatu with 57 runs as well as seven wickets to top Indonesia. The team has been the regional champion for years and comes in to the tournament as favourites. A shocker also for Fiji as they lost to Samoa.
